Mulberry Silk Mawata Hankies 26cm x 26cm – Approx. 6g Each
Mulberry Silk Mawata Hankies 26cm x 26cm – Approx. 6g Each
Beautifully soft, lustrous and versatile, our Mulberry Silk Mawata Hankies are made from fine Mulberry silk cocoons that have been partially degummed and carefully stretched into delicate square silk webs. Also known as Mawata silk hankies, these exquisite fibres are prized by spinners, felt makers and textile artists for their unique texture, strength and shimmering finish.
Each hankie measures approximately 26cm x 26cm and weighs around 6g, creating a lightweight yet substantial silk layer ideal for a wide variety of fibre and mixed media techniques.
Mawata silk hankies draft beautifully for hand spinning, allowing fine strands of silk to be gently pulled and spun into lustrous, textured yarns with exceptional strength and sheen. They are also highly valued for silk paper making, nuno felting, embellishment, textile layering and fibre art, where their delicate translucent structure adds dimension and subtle texture.
In their natural white state, these silk hankies dye beautifully with acid dyes, natural dyes and protein fibre dyes, producing rich, luminous colours while maintaining silk’s characteristic lustre.
Whether you are spinning luxury yarns, creating silk paper, embellishing felted textiles or experimenting with surface texture, Mawata hankies offer endless creative possibilities.
