Jacquard Cyanotype Kit – Complete Sun-Printing Kit for Paper & Fabric

The Jacquard Cyanotype Kit is a comprehensive starter kit that includes everything you need to begin creating sun-printed photograms and cyanotype prints on paper or fabric. The kit uses the cyanotype process — one of the earliest photographic techniques — enabling you to harness sunlight to create striking blue-toned images on natural fibre surfaces.

Benefits

  • All-in-one kit: includes chemicals, tools and support materials, so you don’t need to source separate items.

  • Excellent for exploring sun-printing on textiles, mixed media or craft surfaces — from beginners to experienced makers.

  • The cyanotype process offers unique visual impact — rich blue images, tactile surfaces and creative freedom.

  • The brand (Jacquard) is known for quality materials in the textile and craft sector, offering reliability and professional results.

Perfect For:

  • Artists and designers creating fabric prints with photographic or nature-inspired textures.

  • Educational and workshop settings exploring alternative photographic methods and textiles.

  • Printmakers and textile makers combining pattern, film negatives or found objects to create bespoke surfaces (e.g., scarves, throws, wall hangings).

  • Home craft projects for unique decorative pieces, gift items or small edition collections.

  • Includes two chemistry bottles (often labelled Part A and Part B: Potassium Ferricyanide & Ferric Ammonium Citrate) that you mix to create the sensitiser. Dharma Trading Co.+1
  • Also includes additional items (depending on pack version): measuring cup, brush (for coating if using raw materials), film negatives or solar-film sheets, glass printing frame, clips and detailed instructions.
  • Suitable for use on natural fibre fabrics (cotton, linen, silk etc), paper, wood or other porous surfaces.

Process summary:

Mix the sensitiser, apply or use included sheets, place object or negative, expose to sun/UV (approx 10-20 minutes depending on conditions), then rinse in water and allow to dry.

  1. Prepare your substrate: if using fabric, pre-wash to remove finishes; if using paper/board ensure it is suitable for wet processing.
  2. Work in a low-light environment while mixing the sensitiser and coating surfaces to avoid premature exposure.
  3. Follow the mixing instructions precisely for Part A and Part B to ensure correct sensitisation.
  4. Ensure good contact between object/negative and sensitised surface during exposure for crisp results.

  5. After exposure, rinse thoroughly in cool water until unreacted chemicals are washed away, then allow to dry. Store and display prints away from direct strong light to maintain blue tone.
  6. Dispose of any chemical waste responsibly and rinse equipment carefully.
