Cream of Tartar is an essential mordant assistant and pH buffer widely used in natural dyeing and wool or silk processing. When paired with alum, it helps stabilise mordant baths, softens fibres, and enhances colour absorption for smoother, more even results. It is particularly valued for bringing out the natural brilliance of dye colours without harshening delicate fibres.

  • Dissolve 6–8 g per litre of hot water; add to alum mordant bath before fabric immersion

Add to the mordant bath after alum is fully dissolved. Avoid overheating once fabric is added. Store in a sealed container to prevent clumping caused by humidity.

When ordering online you can choose 'Click & Collect' for order collection at our premises at 2/99 Heyington Ave, Thomastown, Victoria. We will email you confirming when your order is ready to collect.

Orders can be collected 10am 4pm Monday to Friday and we would appreciate it if you could collect your order within a week.
