Ashford Eight Shaft 40cm / 16" Table Loom

The Ashford Eight-Shaft Table Loom with a weaving width of 40 cm (16”) brings advanced weaving capability into a compact table format. According to manufacturer specs, the eight-shaft models are available in widths of 40 cm, 60 cm and 80 cm.
Its fold-flat design allows the loom to be stored or transported with weaving in place, making it well suited for studio settings or workshop use. Each shaft can be lifted independently enabling complex weave patterns, textured designs and advanced structural experimentation. For serious makers or designers looking to build woven textile collections, this loom offers a significant step up while retaining accessibility and manageability.

Benefits

  • Advanced weaving structure (eight shafts) allows patterning, colour shifts, double-weave and more.

  • Compact width makes loom suitable for smaller studios or shared spaces.

  • Combines professional capabilities with accessibility for serious makers.

  • Suitable for designers producing woven textile collections or limited-edition runs.

  • Fold-flat design supports flexibility in studio layout and transport to workshops.

Perfect For:

  • Apparel cloth, decorative home-textiles, wide scarves or woven yardage with pattern complexity.

  • Design studios needing eight-shaft capability without large floor loom footprint.

  • Workshop or guild settings teaching advanced weaving techniques.

  • Makers building small-batch production of textured woven fabrics.

  • Art-textile installations or experiments where structure is key.

  • Weaving width: 40 cm (16”) — compact yet full eight-shaft capability.
  • Includes stainless steel reed (usually 10 dpi), Texsolv heddles, two shuttles and documentation.
  • Table loom design with fold-flat storage even with weaving in progress.
  • Use for complex weave patterns: Plan shaft tie-ups, treadling sequences and draft ahead of warping.
  • After weaving, remove fabric, wash/block and evaluate as full width piece rather than sample.

  • Ensure you have adequate workspace, warping board or frame for width and eight-shaft complexity.
  • Choose reed, sett and yarns appropriate for eight-shaft structure and width.
  • Plan your draft, tie-up and treadling ahead of warp; eight-shaft weaving requires organisation.
  • Finish fabrics thoroughly: wash, press and block to maintain design and width accuracy.
  • Maintain loom mechanics (shaft cords, levers, treadles) for consistent performance.
