Fructose: Crystalline

Kraftkolour’s Fructose Crystalline is a natural reducing agent widely used in the preparation of sustainable indigo vats. Unlike chemical reducers such as Hydros ST (sodium hydrosulphite), fructose provides a gentle, eco-friendly method of creating and maintaining a living indigo vat. It works by gradually consuming oxygen in the dye bath, allowing the indigo pigment to dissolve into its soluble “leuco” form without releasing harmful by-products.

Made from 100% pure crystalline fruit sugar, this high-quality fructose offers steady reduction power and long vat stability, making it perfect for both beginners and professional dyers. It performs consistently across a range of vat types, including natural indigo and woad, and is compatible with both plant-based and protein fibres.

Favoured by natural dyers worldwide, fructose vats are often called “1-2-3 vats” (one part indigo, two parts lime, three parts fructose). They are non-toxic, odourless, and easy to maintain, offering a safe, sustainable alternative for home studios and workshops.
